Can/Am Ch Mariah's Marauder of Bangor CD CGC ("Badger") was born 10 November 1992, and died just short of his 9th birthday 2001. Sire: CH Glenvista's Ramblin Gambler. Dam: CH Shamrock Abbey's Blue Magpie (a Montgomery County Kennel Club BOB winner). Badger won Top Show Dog Award 1995 (KBTs) presented by Dogs in Canada Magazine, and earned a CD and CGC along the way. He not only sired 5 champions, but also sired at least 5 Companion Dog title holders. Obviously, his "smart" genes were passed on to his offspring. Badger was also the dog featured in the Fred Morgan and Barb Thompson Kerry grooming video. He was bred by Susan Schialdone, and owned and loved by Janet and Hoppy Hopkins.

Our Tribute to Badger
by Janet Hopkins

Badger pranced across the room, rested his beautiful head on my knee, and at that moment, I knew that I would love him forever. My husband, Hoppy, fell under Badger's spell too, so we became a family--two doting old people and one Retired Champion Kerry Blue Terrier.

Although Badger was 6-1/2 years old and it had been more than two years since he had been near a show ring, we learned that he had not forgotten any of his heyday or any of his special training. He taught us everything he knew--every ride in the car was a trip to the next "big show" for him, our morning walks were runs around the show ring, and, if we paused to chat with neighbors, he stood quietly so that they could "judge" and admire his physical qualities.

Hoppy and Badger practiced off-leash obedience on the golf course regularly, both returning home tired and happy and with a new award in hand--a closer bond between master and beloved dog.

Suddenly, and without warning, Badger crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. but I am sure he heard our last command, and he will be waiting patiently for his family--the two old people who loved him.

Ode to Elegance

Our baby "Lady Molly of Tontine" went on a journey to Doggie Heaven. The
Lord gave us this magnificient champion for fourteen years.

Her charm, elegance, and refinement were beyond description. A classical
lady, always happy, with genuine style and beauty, our little Princess bore
her lineage royally with fun and grace. She gave us great affection and
loved life.

Our elegant sweetheart, we miss you and will always love you!

Penny

In Memory of Penny

"Penny" had a great life and she just got better as she got older. She didn't start her obedience training until we finished her (3-4yrs old with specialty majors) and then only trained her sparingly because she got bored easily. That was in the ice ages before the fun sport of agility was known. She got her CDX at around 8-9 years old only shown in the Open A class 4 times. Again that was before many people had the courage to show Kerries in the obedience ring.

She only had one litter and from that we got our multiple BIS winner "Ch Blujac's Afternoot Delight" .

PADDY'S RUN

by Earl Palmer

 Paddy

Oh chariot hasten, the forest awaits
there to run without restraint.

So upon forest floor my paws alight
to follow the path with hearts delight.

Treading softly with sprightly prance
my tail at attention as I advance.

Ahead each tree and bush awaits
my mark, I shall not hesitate.

Airs beckon to me overwhelmed
my nose confused as I cover the ground.

Now the trail opens wide anew,
a tree lined hall, an avenue.

I criss and cross to investigate
each tuft of grass, each twig to rate.

Upon a fork I have come
to wonder which is the one.

Turning, I see his right hand extended.
I follow the way as intended.

The grade resumes in an upward climb.
Moving slowly I take my time.

Finally the crest, there I await
for him who labors with slower gait.

With narrowed gap and yonder a knoll,
mystery beckons from a critter's hole.

Now behind I quicken my pace,
thundering downhill as though in a race.

Oh joy, there follows a twisting bend,
the way I hope never to end.

>From a fallen log, a 'chipping' sound,
tiny creatures every where abound.

Bear left he points with outstretched arm,
stay on the trail avoiding harm.

Now down narrowed path I wind
ever slowing with the passing of time.

From a bubbling brook refreshed we continue,
together we walk but with waning sinew.

Now it is finished the run has ended,
his outstretched hand to me extended.

In hopes to run one more time,
my paw prints I leave behind.

Calkerry's Guinness Reserve

January 20, 1995 - February 12, 2002

Bred and owned by Janet Joers & John Van den Bergh

Guinness was different. He was born 18 hours after the other puppies in his litter. As soon as he opened his eyes, he started making trouble for his litter mates by instigating misbehavior - yet as soon as the other puppies were misbehaving also, Guinness would pretend to be a model puppy.

Guinness did not like routines; everyday he would do something he had not done before. He rarely slept in the same spot and he would enjoy different foods. He considered teethbrushings and taking pills a treat.

His goal in life was to catch a cat -- and he succeeded. A quick "drop it" saved the cat's life.

He was a good boy.

Piper

Piper (Can. Ch. Ballymoon's Sundance Kid ex. Am. Can. Ch. Ballymoon's Flynn
Tango and Can. Ch. Jessica January) was our first Kerry and our introduction
to this wonderful breed. During his career in the show ring Piper amassed 5
Bests in Show and 104 group placings. He was a great Kerry and the best
friend anyone could ever ask for.
He died on June 9th, 2001 of a massive stroke. He will be missed terribly.

Pepper

She was my sweet-tempered, joy filled, loving companion.
She never started a fight and she never backed down from one.
She never rolled over.
She believed if you wanted to see her underside you could lie down, roll over and look up.
She was an imp and scamp.
She thought being naughty on the grooming table was great home entertainment.
She loved to play and to run.
She loved the sound of her own voice.
She was independent and wanted to do everything for herself.
She was happy, affectionate, loving and trusting
She was beautiful and sound.

She brought us seventeen plus years of happiness

She is missed.

Pepper's life began April 8, 1984, and ended April 23, 2001.
She was Ch. Aran's Mischief McCready.

She became a Champion at fifteen months, had many Breed wins and won the U.S. Kerry Blue Traveling Specialty in 1987. Her handler was Clay Coady. She was bred by Nancy and Richard Breidenthal. Her sire was Ch. Poteen's Summer Storm and her dam Tontine's Tommilee.

Duke with his littersister, Ella

In Memory of Duke

January 22, 1995 -- December 28, 2000

Calkerry's Duke of Jazz (Ch. Calkerry's All That Jazz x Ch. Kehalen's Dance of Glenkerin) was our "Special Delivery" puppy. Born a full 9 1/2 hours after the first five puppies, Duke entered the world a free spirit and remained so his entire life. Proud, dignified, powerful, and a great lover of the outdoors, Duke commanded his world and lived every minute to the fullest.

Owned by David Readerman and Rita Burgess of Marin County, Duke reveled in sprints along the beach, hikes along the vast windswept headlands, and long walks on the grassy ridges with the ocean and bay far below. These wide open spaces of sky and sea were his kingdom and his home.

Duke loved life and was as loved as any dog could be, but if love alone could sustain a dog, he would be with us today. After a long fight with lymphoma that showed the true courage of this dog, he died with great dignity surrounded by those he loved. There was something most majestic about Duke. With the wind in his whiskers and the light in his eyes, his home is now the wide open spaces of heaven.
