Latest Update

Rescue Write-Up

Jack is a 7-year old purebred altered male Kerry Blue Terrier.

Natural Ears - Pet Haircut - Fall has been trimmed way back.

Jack is being fostered in Savannah Ga. - He is currently living with 6 other Kerries and has had no issues. He seems to do better with other dogs around he loves to have attention and company.

He has been around my 3-year old son and has done fine - would not recommend young kids full time until Jack is a little older

He does fine around Livestock. I am not sure about a cat.

He is up to date on all shots. Hart worm test was negative.

Jack is a great Kerry and is fine on or off lead and just wants to be with someone he will lay around all day as long as you are close by.

Please contact me for more information on Jack, or complete the adoption questionnaire.

Laddie, a 5-year old male (Adoption Pending)

Rescue Coordinator: Sharon Arkoff <sharonarkoff@yahoo.com>
Fostered in the Northeast

The pictures say a thousand words about Laddie, a 5-yo neutered purebred kerry in the northeast.

Laddie is described by his very loving owners as the perfect companion dog in a hundred ways. He is funny, playful, affectionate, loyal, loves long walks with his mom, and car rides, and going roller-blading with his dad, and loves meeting new people, though he can be alittle enthusiastic about the greeting process if not guided in how to behave like a civilized kerry. Like many kerries, he is better with some guidance about how to answer the doorbell without overwhelming the person coming in. Once reminded of the rules, he will sit next to guests and beg for attention). He has never shown any food-aggression or resource guarding.

Unfortunately, the only issue with Laddie is that he is dog-aggressive, and is in need of a new home after an altercation with another dog in his apartment complex. Laddie's dog-aggression can be managed quite easily by a terrier-savvy owner who understands Laddie's triggers and how to de-escalate them, but unfortunately Laddie's parents aren't able to keep him.

Laddie is such a funny boy, so full of personality (as you can see from his brief video, below, and his pictures), and will be a wonderful New Year's present for the right family. Laddie would do best in a home where someone is at home during the day (he's used to a work-at-home parent whom he can follow from room to room, in good kerry style), and where he will get plenty of exercise and attention, and guidance so that he can feel secure. A home with terrier experience and preferably experience with a dog-aggressive kerry would be especially desirable for Laddie.

Brian, a 3-year old male

Rescue Coordinator: Linda Grisley <lgrisley@shaw.ca>
Fostered in Ontario, Canada

Here's a lucky Irish lad born on St. Patrick's Day 2009 who would love a new home. Brian was auctioned in the US and put into a pet store in Ontario as a puppy. The pet store had difficulty selling him (good!!) so a kindly lady purchased him after watching him languishing there for a couple of months. Brian joined his housemate, an adult standard poodle, who gracefully took him under his wing and taught him to be the lovely boy he has now grown into. (the poodle says credit goes to their owner as well ) Unfortunately, for the poodle, Brian has reached that adolescent-to-adult stage of pushiness and is beginning to attempt to dominate in the household. He has not shown any aggression as yet, but is intimidating the now older poodle.

His owner has also taken on a full time job and does not have the time any more to devote to Brian's requirements for exercise and stimulation. It's time for Brian to move along to another home where he can receive the care and attention he deserves.

Brian is located in Ontario, Canada. He is a beautiful silver with black points, I'm told, and is neutered. He is good with older children and plays well at the dog park. He is in great health and a lovely boy who enjoys the water and long hikes. Preference will be given to adopters within driving distance.

Brian has been placed.

Kelly & Kerry, a 2-year old brothers

Rescue Coordinator: Sharon Arkoff <sharonarkoff@yahoo.com>
Fostered near Chicago

In collaboration with Kerry Blue Rescue of Chicago, we would like to let the list know about Kelly and Kerry, two 2-yo purebred kerry males, brothers, who find themselves in need of new homes of their own. They have been living with an older owner who found that the two boys were just getting to be too much for her. They reportedly are well-socialized with people and good with children, and are funny, affectionate, healthy, endearing, and very smart. Both just really want to find and be with their people. In a kerry-savvy home that would provide attention, guidance, and help them gain confidence, they would absolutely relax and blossom. They're not well-socialized to other dogs, and have had a few spats with each other. Both would likely be very different dogs in their own homes, without another adolescent male terrier in their face 24/7.
