A Shaved Kerry Blue
by John Van den Bergh
Pictures provided by Nancy Hon
When we wash our Kerry Blue, the hair clings to
the body and it gives a very different image. Have you ever wondered what
a Kerry Blue looks like under all that hair?
Well look no further, these two pictures were taken from a Kerry Blue
called "Cash". The owners did not like the traditional Kerry
trim, so they had him shaven. Eventually the dog ended up in an animal
shelter where he was identified as a poodle/schnauzer cross. He was rescued
by the KBT Club of Northern California and placed in a good home in Oregon.
Because the image of the Kerry changes so dramatically
when it is shaven, it can be very difficult to spot a rescue Kerry Blue
in a shelter. Shelter personnel or a vet might have shaven the dog down
to be able to treat skin diseases. In that case, rescue people should
be very careful in identifying a rescue Kerry Blue.
It took several months for the hair to grow back, and longer for the fall
to be Kerry-like again. It is hard to believe that these three pictures
are from the same dog.

Cash now gets to go to work daily, take long walks and is a great companion.
