Of Kerries and Cats

By June E. Hulit, Copyrighted 1997

I remember our first Kerry Danny, was raised with cats. Danny's Kerry mom had a C-section and a few complications so she wasn't always with her pups. One of the cats in the breeders household was a Russian Blue and would crawl into the whelping box with the pups and curl up around the very small litter of 2 pups and keep them warm. How is this for motherly instinct?

Anyhow I remember we would go over to visit the breeder to get the ears set and naturally Danny, the growing and gangly pup that he was, would always look for his "cat mom" -- . When she spotted him -- she would jump up on the grooming table and rub and rub against him and he would try to lick and kiss her with his paws in his clumsy, puppy way. It was the cutest site to watch.

Yes, Danny, was named for Daniel - as the biblical Daniel in the bible for Daniel in the Lion's Den because he was primarily raised by this cat.

Danny, was our first Kerry (and a Group 1 winner) and he came into a house with two cats - one named Piewackett (a black cat with an attitude). Welllll that is a whole other story that I will share some other time. The other cat was Motu Tapu - mixed breed farm cat that looked very much like a Snow Shoe.
